Carley's Story
Carley is a rescue from the Marion County Humane Society. She is part Sheepdog and part Bearded Collie. She was a staff member of Diamonds and Designs by None Other Goldsmiths starting in January of 2004.
She is a replacement staffer for a dearly departed, long time beloved friend, Bear, who had been serving customers in the central Ohio area since 1986.
Carley was about 1 year old when we got her. She had been dropped off, after her family of origin no longer wanted her. She clearly had been treated unkindly at some point, as she was afraid of everyone around her.
Our president, Debra Hobbs, saw this reaction to people and decided that she would show this little bundle of fur all the love that could be, between a dog and her human companions. She spent over two hours sitting on the floor at the director's office trying to coax Carley out from underneath the desk. Eventually, Carly decided to trust her and the bond was formed. She brought her directly back to the jewelry store and introduced her to the rest of the staff, who all dearly love animals. We all sat around on the floor letting Carley choose each of us in turn and allowed us to pet her. It took several months before she trusted everyone but now she just loves to come to work and protect "her people".
Carley seems to love children, and will often warm up to women quickly, but, she still is a bit distrustful of men, and especially those guys that like to wear their hats inside the store.
She has decided that it is her job to announce the first customer of the day by barking vigorously even though she is wagging her tail at the same time.
So don't take offense if she is barking at you, she is just doing her job to make a contribution to the family unit.
