2009 Design Awards
Owners Debra Hobbs and Treva Roberts
swept six of the seven top awards at the Columbus Jewelry Show in August 2009.
The Ohio Jewelers Association sponsors the regional show, in its 64th year. The design competition in is held in conjunction with the show and is attended by retail jewelers from across the Midwest. The competition is open to voting by all the retailer buyer and associate buyers in attendance.
The jewelry designs created fall into two categories, with a total of six prizes plus Best of Show being up for grabs. In addition to the cash prizes and crystal trophies awarded, the Best of Show design will be sent to New York City and entered in the national design competition held at the prestigious JCK show in early 2010.
Treva took the show’s top award with a 14K white gold pendant, which held a freeform piece of tourmalinated quartz accented with black and white diamonds. The piece won 1st place in category one as well as being named Best of Show. This is the second time in three years that Treva has taken this honor.
Treva's other entries included a freeform pendant design with pink diamonds and pink drusy set in 14K white gold, which won 2nd place in the same category and a 14K two-tone diamond ring, which features one of the largest Eightenity™ Cut diamonds that has been cut to date. The ring, a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, includes bead set and channel set diamonds in the euro-style shank. It won 3rd place in category two.
Store founder, Debra Hobbs, won for both of the pieces she entered. The first, a stunning 14K two-tone pendant of cascading yellow and white bezel set diamonds won 2nd place in category two. Her second entry, a distinctive “ladder” design pendant made of 14K white gold with marquise shape champagne and white diamonds for the “rungs,” was voted 3rd place in category one.
Both owners were thrilled with the outcome and are excited to have the opportunity to share their designs with people in central Ohio. The five award winning pieces are currently on display at the store.
